So Many Unanswered Questions!

So it’s the end of the world in about 9 months. What are you going to do for the next 9 months of your life? Maybe take a trip to Rome or quit your job and quit school to lie on the beach and live a carefree rest of your life and do whatever you want. It would really suck to work this hard all the way through high school and college and then have the earth be destroyed right when everything starts to get good. It really makes us think about what our purpose in life is. Why are we here? Are we just little puppets entertaining some higher being? Is there really a God? There are so many questions that we just can’t answer as humans. For all those religious people out there: is this so called end of the world, the second coming of Jesus? IS THIS JUDGEMENT DAY?? It sucks so much not knowing these things. On December 21, 2012, everything that we know and love will be “coming to an end”. The cities we have built, the progress we have made as a nation, and everything we have worked so hard for will be destroyed. The Mayans were a civilization in Central America who predicted that the end of the world would be in 2012. Then again what do those savages know? They weren’t evolved and as smart as we humans are today. We definitely would have seen this coming. Then how did they build their civilization and how were they right about everything else before? Well crap… now what are we going to do?

Have you ever thought of what’s out there? Space is so vast and intimidating and we as humans have only explored what’s around us. Something out there, according to the Mayans is coming for us. Whether it’s a natural disaster and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it or if it’s something way bigger and more important than us, were hopeless. What can we do or how can we prevent this? A man walked on the moon; big deal! We sent a rover to mars, yeah and what is that going to prove; that sustainability is possible on a planet that is red rock and completely unappealing? We haven’t even invented the technology to space travel farther than a planet away. How can we prevent our Earthy home from perishing from an astrological doomsday?
Then again this could all be a bunch of bullshit (I hope). Yeah I’m scared to know the date of my death. I couldn’t imagine the feeling that I was about to die, or knowing the exact date I’m going to die. It’s too much to handle. And what if you just want to get it over with? Kill yourself now and not have to deal with the anticipation. Reality is harsh, right? Then if this was a bunch of crap how will you ever know if the world was really ending; you’re dead you killed yourself for nothing.

Questions to think about: Do you believe that the world is coming to an end? If so why or can you really be sure? If not, explain why you think this is a bunch of crap.

  1. I dont think the world is going to end. I think its a bunch of horse shit. People think the world is going to end because the Mayan Calendar ends. Uh hello the calendar has ended before... I think it was last year where some Preacher guy told everyone the world was ending. People actually believed him spent all their money, quit their job, and many other ridiculous things. Like really people? Have some common sense.

  3. I think that this whole end of the world thing is really freaking a lot of people out, and to be honest, I don’t think it’s for a very good reason. For the whole Mayan calendar thing, yeah okay, maybe it does say that the world will end in 2012, but what I think a lot of people fail to remember is that we use a base 10 system, while the Mayans were known to use a base 18 system. So the dates are really off.
My sister was one of the people who really got freaked out over the whole rapture day. She was always asking me why I wasn’t upset over it. I figured, there’s no sense in it. If the world is going to end, we can’t stop it, so why worry about. I figure I’ll just enjoy the time I have and not fill it with panic. And yes, there was a small part of me that was a little fearful for it, but to be honest I completely ignored that feeling because I really like to live in denial. But this sort of stuff isn’t exactly new. People have always been afraid of the end of the world, and to be honest, I think that part of the reason for that is the media. Think about how many apocalyptic movies there are: 2012, The Day after Tomorrow, Knowing, Signs, or the TV show It Could Happen Tomorrow, etc. Most of them have their own reasons as to why this would happen, but they all show the end of the world, or at least the mass population. Or even the movie Panic at Ground 0. This black and white movie showed the fear that people had for the “mushroom clouds”. This was also considered to be an apocalyptic movie. Most people feel that if the media dwells on it, then it must be important. I think that if the media would stop using this as movie ideas, then most people would stop worrying as much over it.

  4. Quote me on this. The World will not end because the Mayans calender ended. The Mayans never said the world would technically end they just stopped their calender. There is no scientific proof or evidence, even suggesting that the world is close to coming to an end. The world is also a huge place that would be impossible to be destroyed in a few days time. We would have already started seeing the effects of the world coming to an end if it was to happen. Theres no way the world will end on the date the Mayans predicted.

  5. I honestly feel like our earth may be approaching an end to life as we know it. Not in the next year but maybe the next one hundred years. I don't believe it has anything to do with the mayan calendar. I believe and science proves we are contributing to global warming and there will be consequences.

  6. I do not think any catastrophic event is happening this year to end the world as we know it because of the Mayan calendar. I'm a firm believer that that is in fact bull sh**. However, with the way we treat our planet and our natural resources, there's no doubt that things might change for the worse in the near future. Of course, no one "can be sure" that the world is or isn't going to end. No one can really be sure of anything for that matter. The things we feel the most "sure" about are the things that we simply believe most in, whether it be because of our familial influences, our faith, or what we've read, etc. The world could end tomorrow for all we know! I just happen to believe that it won't, and I will continue to live my life as I have been living it!

  7. I honestly do not know what to think and I'd rather really not think about it. How can we rely on a theory the mayans predicted so so long ago? They may be right or they may be wrong who knows.

  8. I don’t think the world is going to end on December 12, 2012 and I believe that theres no way in possibly knowing if it does or not. For all we know, the world can deteriorate tomorrow! However, I don’t think we should base our information off what the Mayan Calendar says. I remember reading somewhere that the Mayans never stated the world was going to end on a specific day, they just stopped the calendar which made everyone ASSUME that it was going to end. I remember when just last year, everyone was waiting around looking at the time because they said the world was going to end and as we can see, it didn’t. I haven’t really paid attention to this theory because if the world does end, there’s really nothing we can do about it and at least I’ll die knowing I’ve lived my life the way I wanted and happy. You can’t always live in fear in thinking the world is going to come to an end. It would be a shame if someone ended their life from so much anticipation of the world ending for nothing.

  9. I think that this is one of the most ridiculous theories going today. How can anyone think that the world is going to end based on a calendar created so long ago. There is no evidence that the Mayans even believed that the world would end then it's just when the calendar ends. will 2012 be judgement day? or the second coming? Maybe, but why 2012? Maybe the world won't end by the hand of god, but from a physical force like a comet. Its possible, but there's no evidence to suggest it will happen this year.

  10. I don't think that the world is going to end on December 21, 2012. Then again, maybe it will. I don't know. Nobody knows. It says in the bible that nobody knows the day nor the hour in which the world will come to an end and I truely believe that. I think that it is stupid to worry about the end of the world. I mean, when it is time to end it will end, and there is nothing that anybody can do about it. Living your life in fear is definitely not going to help anything. I live my life with a positive outlook, and without worry, all the time because I know that no matter what happens God has a plan for me, and I know that that plan was made in my best interest.

  11. The Mayans never said this was the end of time, they just didn't extend their calendar beyond that date. I don't think that has any significance at all. Though now we can calculate our calendars indefinitely using computers, if we couldn't would we really keep making calendars thousands of years from now? I'm not worried about a potential apocalypse. Honestly, I would have hoped it happened sooner. I'm tired of this world already, I need some sleep.

  12. I don't believe the world is going to end at the end of 2012. We've heard the world was going to end plenty of times before and plenty of people, including me, think this another one of those false alarms. I wouldn't quit my job and blow all of my money doing all of the things I wanted to do just because this might be the end. I'm just going to keep on living normally and enjoying my life and keep planning for my life beyond 2012. People talk about the Mayan calendar ending, but why would the Mayans bother making a calendar that planned that far ahead? And the Bible doesn't say when the world will end, it just says what will happen when it does. Of course the world will end eventually, but I'm pretty sure it won't during my life time, so I'm not going to worry about that.

  13. Believing that the world is going to end on December 21, 2012 is nonsense. The Mayans were on a different calendar as us, so it is useless to look at their calendar to predict the end of the world. What I believe though, is that the world is slowly changing physically. The poles are slowly melting, and the earth is getting hotter, which will cause changes in animal adaptation and what not. But again, this has been happening ever since the beginning of time. It's all constant change, but I really disagree with the belief that the world is ending in 9 months.

  14. I honestly don't think this will be the end of the world. It just happened to be when the Mayan calendar ends, but I highly doubt that it will be the end of existence. I do however think that there is a possibility of our way of life ending. There could be some catostrophic event that substantially changes the world as we know it. This could be anything from an economic fallout, terrorist attack, oil crisis, there are many possibilities.

  15. I am a little afraid that the world might be coming to an end. I know sometimes its ridiculous to think that just out of nowhere the world will come to a complete end. I am someone who is afraid of everything so when i hear all these conspiracy theories or predictions it does begin to scare me. I also think i am afraid because like you said there are so many unanswered questions, leaving everything up to the mind. Thats where i begin to freak myself out because i think of all the things i have left to do and that there might be a possibility of not being able to do any of them.

  16. I don't think the world is going to end this year. I don't really have a reason on why I don't think that the world is going to end, I just hope the Mayans were wrong.

  17. I just do not know when the world is going to end. I don't necessarily believe that everything is going to be over this year but it could happen. I just have faith in where I am going when it's all over so I am not worried about it.

  18. I think that the world is definitely not coming to an end anytime soon. In relation to how long the world has been around, then yes the world will come to an end soon because of how we take care of it not because of the theory in 2012.

    ReplyDelete
  19. First off, for us "religious people" the Bible does not say when the end will come. The end will not concern us based on our faith in Christ. The mayan calendar scare is just some nonsense some archeologist or scientist of some sort used to stir up fear and make a name for themselves. As for space travel, Why waste what little money we have to go too planets far to hostile and uninhabitable for human life, or any life.

  20. I remember reading somewhere that explained how a large meteor was to appear near the predicted end of the world. Due to its size, the course it is taken cannot be changed, thus causing it to crash straight into Earth. If that were true, I would still not believe that the world is going to end on December 21, 2012. If looking on a Christianity explanation, Jesus said that no one would ever know the exact date of the end of the world except his Father. When looking at facts placed in front of us, there is no complete information backing up this claim besides an incomplete calendar. Who is to say that the Mayans didn't just leave it incomplete on purpose just to mess with us? Now, of course, none of this can actually be proven. But I know one thing: I will be sitting online, drinking tea at midnight on December 22, laughing.

  21. The world will not end December 21, 2012. It will not end anytime soon. I believe the world will end when the sun turns into a red giant star and swallows the world whole. There have been a lot of solar flairs lately, but nothing to be alarmed about. As far as the Mayans go, maybe the reason they did not want to make the calendar past December 21, 2012 is because they had more important things to do than make a ridiculously huge calendar that spanned thousands of years.

  22. I, personally, do not believe that the world is going to end. I really have nothing else to say about this. I think we will see 2013 without a problem.

  23. i'm not going to lie, all of this stuff about the world ending scares me. I ignore all articles, books, tv shows, etc. So, i think that the world is not ending for the simple and ignorant reason that i do not want it to end. If i wake up tomorrow and the world is in fact ending, well then i've lived my life in ignorant bliss believing that everything said about the world ending was indeed a bunch of crap and hopefully i die quickly.

  24. The world is not coming to an end. To all the people with no lives that hyped up this false story: get a life. The main reason that people think that the world is going to end is because the Mayans calendar ends on a date in December of 2012. Everything they have predicted has come true so far, and just because their predictions stop in December doesn't mean anything! They could have been just sick of making all these predictions! For all we know, the people making these predictions may have been killed in an accident, thus explaining the sudden stop in the calendar. I can't wait for this year to pass. Surely enough, another plausible, yet ridiculous theory of the world ending would come about a few months following December.

  25. I honestly don't think there is any chance that the world is coming to an end in 9 months, its a ridiculous notion to even think its going to happen. It is fun though to get caught up in the hype and play along. It is going to be exactly like y2k, a ton of prep for nothing.

  26. Me being a very religious person of course i believe the world is coming to an end.

  27. I believe that the world is not coming to an end anytime soon becuase 1) The earth has been around for billions of years and isn't going to all of a sudden disapear, 2) If the world was ending in 9 months, the earth would be in a much more fragile state than it was right now, 3) The 2012 theory is a big piece of bull...

  28. I do not believe that the world is coming to an end. Ever time someone brings this up i just laugh. Have you ever though that maybe the Mayans just got tired of chiseling away at the wall that they made this calender on? Or maybe they figured they'd done enough and if they get that far then they'll pick it up again. It is not the end of the world it is just something for the media to blow up and waste our time on distracting us from important matters.

  29. I have never bought any of the 'end of the world' theories. Personally, I think they're complete B.S., and just an excuse for people to have something to say. The Mayans one is the one that bothers me the most. Just because they ended the calendar it doesn't mean the world is ending.
