Of course we all know Spring Break is coming up next week. Where us 1.5 million college students nationwide will spend 1 billion dollars collectively. On average students have ten drinks a day during Spring Break, compared to the average of 6 drinks though out a school week.
Spring Break is one of the most hyped up events for college students, from the month before when everyone is trying to get that perfect beach body to going out drinking as much as possible each night. Spring Break comes in the perfect time, just as everyone is starting to feel the dread of the semester. It is a week to blow off some steam, celebrate the end of the winter, and brace yourself for the long haul of the end of the year.
Spring Break is also a time where a lot of people make some very poor decisions. Drunk driving being the worst of them all. Every year about 1,800 college students die due to alcohol related car accidents. With
Spring Break clearly being the time of the most college drinking it is obvious that students are at a higher risk during this time.
My questions to you are: What do you think of all the Spring Break hype? What causes it? Also are you concered for your safety over Spring Break? And do you have any cool plans for Spring Break.

I love Spring Break! There is a lot of hype leading up to Spring Break for college students, and high school students as well. A lot of this has to do with the fact that we haven't had a break since winter break, and we won't have another until summer. Also, as the cool weather is going away, it's the first time that many of us will get to spend time at the beach since before winter! Safety over spring break is always a big issue. In Sarasota alone, last spring break, I remember there being nine teen deaths. Six of those kids I knew. Drugs, alcohol, and car accidents are a major danger for high schoolers and college kids. I think it is important to stress safety, but kids will do what they're going to do. I will be spending the break at my home in Sarasota, with my mom, family, and friends. I'll be spending time at the beach and simply relaxing. I think people on spring break just need to think of what's good for them. Don't get too crazy!
ReplyDeleteSpring break is the same as any other break for me. I enjoy just being able to relax. It is hyped up because it is awesome weather and freedom. I am not going to be taking too many risks over the break hopefully. Just chilling with friends and sleeping.
ReplyDeleteSpring break is awesome. I went to Panama City for my senior year of high school and honestly some pretty crazy stuff happened. It’s a time for us students to break out our swim suits and be happy. I don’t really have plans for this spring break but I recently just got back from New Orleans and I’m going on a trip to Panama City for spring weekend so I’m taking this time to catch up on some sleep and enjoy being home.

ReplyDeleteI personally love spring break because it’s a nice and well deserved rest from school. But I think a lot of people get misconceptions about it. Most people feel like that’s a time to get drunk and party, but honestly it shouldn’t be. It should just be a time to have fun and kick back and relax. It’s not there to act stupid. I do fear a lot for my safety on the road. And even though I can be safe and say that since I don’t drink I’ll be okay. But I don’t even know how many times it’s the sober person who gets hurt instead of the drunken person, which to me doesn’t seem fair. But I avoid driving during rush hour and at night, which is when most people are drunk and driving. I don’t really know what my plans are for the break. I guess I’ll find out when they happen.
ReplyDeleteSpring break has so much hype because its placed at a time which breaks the semester in half. It is kinda like thanksgiving break, but the weather around this time is a lot warmer now where i am from. I don't plan on making stud decisions because my plan is to lay on a beach everyday.
ReplyDeleteSpring break is a great time to get away from school, soak up some sun, and just relax. I live very close to Panama City, so I never have to make plans to go on any long trips for spring break. All I have to do is jump in my truck and drive down the road to be at a top spring break destination. I plan on using most of my time this spring break making some money and enjoying my time home. Hopefully the weather will stay warm all week.
ReplyDeleteFor me, Spring Break is no different than Christmas or Thanksgiving break. It's a great time to relax, see your friends from high school, and get back to the beach. Over the beak I don't have any specific plans for Spring Break, i'm just excited to get back and enjoy the warmer whether that we missed out on over Christmas break.
ReplyDeleteI think the hype comes from the relief you get after all your mid-term papers and tests are over. Right now, I'm under so much stress with all the reports due, that by the time I'm done all I'll want to do is drink and a slue of other things... I don't feel for my safety since when I drink, I usually spend the night where ever I'm drinking. If I have to go home, I'll walk. That way not only do I avoid driving drunk, but I also avoid others who are. Yeah, I'm headed down to Miami!
ReplyDeleteI think the hype is really understandable, because everybody wants a break from all of the work we have right now. Plus, after we get back from spring break, there is a little more than a month left, so everybody is feeling stressed about all the work they just did, and all the work that is coming up. I'm not concerned for my safety over spring break because I'm going home. I have to do a lot of thing for my parents like help move into our new house, apply for jobs, and shadow doctors, and in my spare time I'll catch up with my high school friends but this break won't be quite like the typical spring break...
ReplyDeleteI think students go too crazy whenever there's ANY time of break. Even if it's a three day weekend, people go overboard. And that's because they're following that stupid quote someone wrote that says "live like if it was your last day." Young people are living life this way, not thinking about their future, or their physical safety. They don't think that irresponsible behavior in one night of alcohol might be their last. My plans during spring break are to have fun, reunite with my parents whom I miss so much, but most of all relax, eat, and sleep.
ReplyDeleteI love Spring Break! I can’t wait to go home to Miami and be with all my family and friends. I do believe there is a lot of hype for Spring Break, but its understandable cause its always nice to have a break from the midterms, exams and homework. I’m not that concerned about my safety, since ill be in a safe environment, but then again you should always be aware of any dangers around you. Safety always comes first! Unfortunately, my Spring Break will not be as relaxing as I would have hoped, since I do have a lot of school work due the week following. Nonetheless, I am looking forward to no classes, being home and being with those whom I miss the most.
ReplyDeleteI love spring break, but simply because I don't HAVE to do anything. I am not a big partier, so that is not a draw and I really don't understand the hype. People have all summer to do what they try to fit in to a week of spring. You can drink and go to the beach just as much as any other time of the year.
ReplyDeleteI understand why there is all this hype. Kids now look for any excuse to party and get drunk. I do believe that all of this hype causes some danger and it is frightening. I personally am not afraid for my safety because i do not drink. It is a personal decision I made, but i am obviously surrounded by people who do drink. Being constantly surrounded by this, it is frightening knowing that people do make dumb decisions while under the influence. I think that people should take precautions if they are going to be drinking. I am not a partier so i will be spending my spring break at home relaxing with friends and family.
ReplyDeleteI love spring break. It a great chance to relax from school and have "me" time. You get to go home and spend time with family and friends. I am not really sure why everyone gets excited, maybe because everyone can get shmammered and show off their bodies that they have been working hard for. Not quite sure though. Well I am going home for spring break, so I am not really concerned about my safety. Now if I was going on a cruise or to one of those events you see on tv, hell yeah I would be concerned! I wish I was going somewhere awesome for spring break, but there is always next year!
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be the first time that I will experience spring break. From what i have seen on tv before it looks like it can get pretty crazy. I won't be able to do much because I am staying in tally to practice
ReplyDeleteThe hype for Spring Break is kind of different when you already live in South Florida. Spring Break always bring a heap of drunk college kids that I do not want disrupting my relaxation time. My safety is always threatened during Spring Break because of all the drunk kids that are always speeding by my house due to the fact that I am only 10 minutes away form the beach.
ReplyDeleteThe hype is that everyone definitely needs a break from school and it really is what most people look forward too during the first couple moths of spring.. I am going home for spring break to be with family and friends and plan on being at the beach since i live 5 minutes away! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is enough hype. It is one of the most enjoyable weeks of the year behind Thanksgiving and Christmas. I can't wait to just go home and enjoy some time with my family. I might end up doing some yard work, but its been long over due since I have done some real hard work.
ReplyDeleteAll the spring break hype is awesome because it is something that a group of people doing something together. The hype is mostly caused because it is a time to go vacation without your family but with a bunch of college kids. So it's like clubbing during the day for a week. I'm not concerned with my safety over spring break. I am going home to chill with friends, go to the beach and have a Disney day like I do every year with my friends for spring break.
ReplyDeleteSpring break is actually a very dangerous time - there is always a multitude of deaths that are usually caused by alcohol in some form. But, what else happens when you bring hundreds of thousands of college students, as well as others, to a week full of non-stop partying? You should always expect a fight to break out, theft, date-rape, and possibility a rumor of a gun shot. And this is all in South Beach. Heck, even to this day my mother refuses to let me go to South Beach at any time.
ReplyDeleteWith that being said, my safety will be the usually, since I am only planning on meeting up with some friends, family, and setting up a job interview.
My life pretty much sucks at school. I like school and I like learning or whatever but having to homework and go to 8 AM classes flat out sucks. I love the weekend because it is the only time I can do something BESIDES work my ass off. If I don't have a good weekend, the whole next week will suck even worse. Spring Break is God's gift to college students like me who have been working like a dog for months. It's tragic that people die when they drink too much over spring break. That just shows how much their lives suck in college. If they feel the need to drink massive amounts of alcohol to the point where it is sickening to even think about it the next day, they're obviously depressed. I know this from personal experience.
ReplyDeleteI think that if i was in a sorority i would apreciate the spring break hype much more. I would love to spend a week at the beach possibly a little intoxicated with a bunch of friends. Spring break is a tradition in some ways. Binge drinking, beach, sun, friends, its all a part of the spring break/college experience right? i'm not concerned in the slightest for my safety over spring break. I will be laying out by my pool every day trying to get rid of my pale skin. I'll be spending my spring break with my family which is pretty cool to me
ReplyDeleteSpring break is the best! The weather is perfect, all the friends come back home to visit, and the ladies are nice at the beach. Theres nothing not to love about it. I am concerned about safety, but I am not worried about it because everything I do to have fun is done in a safe way. For example, if I ever want to drink, I designate a driver ahead of time. This break, I'm planning on sleeping and going to the beach every day.
ReplyDeletespring break is about getting loose and having fun. thats whats every teen watched tv channel advertises.there no real concern on safety ust be responsible.
ReplyDeleteSpring break definately lives up to the hype. No school, no work, it's great! Spring break is meant to relax and have a good time while being safe at the same time. I myself do not have any crazy plans for spring break, but whatever I do I will never have any concerns on safety because I am just not that stupid.
ReplyDeleteThe Spring Break hype will always be there as it is a time for college kids to let loose, go wild, and not think about school for a week. All of the kids are what cause it, they make huge plans to go to places where a bunch of other college kids are going. I am not concerned for my safety over spring break. The only plans I have are to take my airboat out and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the woods and marsh. Other than that i'll be enjoying a good time with some of my best friends from home.
ReplyDeleteI think the spring break hype is justified since teenagers get a time to not stress over school and sometimes even work. I am not too concerned for my own safety. I grew up in Fort Lauderdale, so I'm used to the spring break feeling. Usually, I know what to do and what to not do.
