Kony 2012

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4MnpzG5Sqc

Kony 2012 has been a national issue across the world. If you didnt know Joseph Kony is a African rebel, who over the last couple of years has been obducting children and turning girls into sex slaves and boys into child foot soilders. Kony now ranks as one of the International Criminal Court's most wanted men, facing arrest on charges of crimes against humanity after a 26-year campaign of brutality in his failed bid to overthrow the Ugandan government. But he is not always on the attack he has also done political speeches to gain power and trust then going on the offensive again. What do you think joseph Kony is truly after ? Also, What are some other World issues that would be occuring that we as Americans might not pay attention to?

  1. I actually do not know much about what is happening with Joseph Kony. The first time I even heard his name was when I signed onto Facebook last week and saw Kony videos, "Kony 2012," jokes about Kony, and issues all down the news feed. I didn't know what it was all about, so I watched a few YouTube videos on the issue. I still have heard many controversial things and differing views and "facts" about what Joseph Kony is doing. It is said that he's been doing this for years.

  2. I haven't been caught up in all of this Kony stuff so I don't really understand what he's after. Maybe more power or to show people his authority. All Iknow is that this man is a bad person and us Americans really don't know how to handle him or even if we can. I feel like america should pay a little more attention to what is happening to our country. Im not saying Kony isn't important, Im just saying that america never paid attention to it until now. We have poverty and war to take care of here.

  3. I also do not know much about Joseph Kony. I believe he is just another person who wants control and power. It is a horrible story to hear of children being kidnapped into slavery. I believe this issue is something that needs to be handled but not necessarily by us. One of the world issues America does not focus on enough is global warming and we are one of the leading contributors to the problem.

  4. I have been following the Kony story and I do not think there is any excuse to what he has done and is doing. Many people try and defend him, or say that he has not been doing this consistently, but i believe one time is too many. I have been following and am hoping that he is stopped soon. I think that we should be involved because we have the technology and resources to find him. We are not entering a war but we are just helping end a terrible crime.

  5. I honestly do not know what Kony is after, and I do not think that anyone will. Kony and Kony alone knows what he is truly after. It could be power; it could be trust; it could be world domination; it could be a variety of different reasons. I have seen the name and seen the campaign, but up until now I never clicked on anything to find out more about it. Being a criminology major, I want to find out more about this situation.

  6. I had no idea who this Joseph Kony character was until I logged onto my Facebook last week and my whole newsfeed was about him. Literally every status someone posted had to do with him. I honestly don't think Kony is after anything, he is just a cruel man, has lost his mind, and power hungry. There is poverty around the whole entire world that we Americans don't know about. We just know its poverty.

  7. I actually didn’t know that this was going on but its a horrible thing that he man has done. I can’t figure out how people can just do things like that. Maybe they just don’t have a soul. Besides that situation I really haven’t had the opportunity to watch the news or anything so I don’t know any other worldly things going on.

  8. I have been hearing everybody talk about Kony, but I wasn't really sure what it was all about. I think that what this guy is doing is terrible and he should definitely pay for what he has done. I don't understand how someone can look at themselves in the mirror after doing all those things to those young kids.

  9. I did't really know about Kony until everything blew up on twitter and facebook. I was always a wear of the invisible children and the issues facing it but never really knew who was in charge. I feel what he is doing is absolutely disgusting, and should pay for his crimes. Generally americans seem to be only truly concerned about themselves and nothing thats going on in other countries. For instance, I'm sure many people don't even know about all the hardships and issues occurring in third world countries.

  10. Honestly, I’m not completely aware of the situation. I worked with the Invisible Children, but I still didn’t completely understand the entire story. But from what I’ve heard, this guy seems like a complete jerk. I just can’t understand how he could make what he doing to children seem acceptable in his mind. I mean, he must think that his actions or right or justified, or else he wouldn’t be doing it. So, I’m wondering what it is that he told himself that convinced him that what he’s doing is right. Considering I don’t know a whole lot about him, I feel like my opinion of what he’s after is completely valid, but I think he’s after what most corrupt people are after: power. But not just power in the number of people he has under his control, but the power to strike fear into the people’s hearts of Uganda, which adds its own level of sadism to him.

  11. I am aware of the situation, but I'm not exactly sure what Kony is after. It could be power. It could be money. Maybe he's just a sick minded fuck that does it out of pleasure. Issues that Americans might not be aware of include the civil war in Darfur, the guerrillas in Colombia, and Greece's tumbling economy.

  12. I will do my best to restrain myself and only respond to your questions. Although I have a lot to say about Invisible Children and their major flaws in their mission and "charity". Joseph Kony is an evil man. He is only interested in his own power and interests. He does not have a political nor religious agenda. He is simply after a life of power and war. There is so much that Americans are not aware of simply because they have the luxury of living in this country. However sometimes Americans have to literally pay for their ignorance. Many Americans do not know that their gas prices are so high simply because of Wall Street speculation and they actually should be a lot cheaper than what they are.

  13. I believe what Joseph Kony was doing was terrible. I repeat WAS. i first heard about the Kony situation over Facebook through the group Invisible Children. but it turns out they were six years two late on releasing the video. Joseph Kony leader of the Lord's Army Resistence had already been in hiding for 6 years when this video came out and the LRA was being pushed back by Uganda's own forces. it just shows how uneducated young people are in this country and how impressionable they are to social media.

  14. I was part of a group at my school that raised money and helped fund relief for the victims of this conflict. I don't know what Kony was after, probably power. I think the Invisible Children group had good intentions, they had been helping this cause for a while, but this video was released much too late. My club had been trying to spread awareness for years, and Kony was already in hiding when Invisible Children released it. A lot of the victims don't want to hear about Invisible Children's video, they just want to rebuild their lives now. I am happy people are finally hearing and caring about this, but its too bad it wasn't sooner so this could have been stopped earlier.

  16. I believe Kony is just power hungry, but again I think the media has pumped up this Kony thing way to much. Some other problems in the world are just the basics like hunger and poverty. I do believe that yes we should recognize Kony but we should not blow up a massive uproar like we are doing. I believe there are way to many problems in America for us to be wasting our time going oversees looking for a man who is not as powerful and dangerous as he once was.

  17. I have honestly never heard of Kony until I read this blog post. From what I've seen in the youtube video Kony isn't after anything but power. Hes never made any statements about what he is after, and the means by which he pursues his power are crude and criminal. I think that all of the attention given to Kony in the past few weeks could be a wake up call for the United States and other first world countries. There have been other instances around the world were power hungry men have employed this manner of child recruitment, and it most certainly won't be the last.

  18. I have heard a lot about Joseph Kony to the point where I can't determine what is true and what is not. Many have said that Kony isn't as big of a threat, to people saying he's dead. In all honesty I think this is what the tabloids has done to our society. We come up with our own conclusions on certain ideals and situations that seem "fishy" or out of place, and then it all becomes one huge mess of contradicting theories. If you ask me I have heard enough about Kony just as much as I have heard about 2012 Armageddon and Mayans.

  19. Basically, Kony is a bad guy that is doing bad things. He is violating human rights and hurting children, families, and countries. He seems to be after power but no one really knows but it would be something that would be very interesting to ask Kony and see what he says.

  20. Since I attend a christian school for a couple years of my highschool career, I heard a lot about Kony. We had a section of Invisible Children come to our school constantly selling t-shirts and stuff to put Kony down. The problem is no one knows why neither do they even ask.

Kenya was invaded by Britain many years ago and once the kenyans couldn't take it any more, they basically declared total war, rapping and killing civilians. But they eliminated the threat and Britain left kenya. The war is actually celebrated in Kenya now on Oct 20th!

I tell you this because there is a reason he is doing this, one you're not going to like but you're going to have to accept. You won't believe me if I tell you so I'm going to link to the Lord's Resistance Army, which is the army run by Joseph Kony.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord%27s_Resistance_Army

He is doing this in the name of the God of Christianity and it is to liberate uganda from the oppressive government against it's native people...

I know there are really fucked up things going on within the regime but right now that is taking place in uganda, within their own government. If you believe in Universal Ethics then ok, lets invade uganda and kill Joseph Kony. But the day China invades America because they think we're lazy ass fuck, no one can complain. However, if we leave it be and send the money you would use to kill Kony, to the families in need there and provide protection for the families that have not yet been captured, you will be doing more good than provoking more animosity with other nations. America has been the center of hatred of the world because we insist on invading countries when we see fit.

  21. I think that Kony is just interested in the power. He has no other motive but to just gain power and rule over people as he wishes. A society run by Kony would be in complete anarchy. As Americans we are always into the newest things whether it be world issues or new phones. Kony is in for now but who knows how long that will last for.

  22. How about American issues that Americans may not know about? For example the problems with homeless and juvenile crimes being committed. Or more importantly how some children live in such poor households that the only food they may get that day is what the state provides their school. On the issue of Kony though, the "charity" Invisible Children is not what you would think. Only about 30% of the money they receive actually goes to the Kony cause.

  23. Kony probably just wants to get more power. Things like this have been happening in Africa for quite some time now, most people just didn't know. I think it's good that the media is trying to let the people know what is happening in the world. But I think that most people are making too big of a deal out of this and acting like they care, and they will forget abour this whole situation in a cuople of days.

  24. Kony is after power. Anyone who makes kids into soldiers is obviously brainwashing them into having absolute loyalty and allegiance to Kony. He is slowly building an army. As far as other World issues I can't really think of any.

  25. First of all, I think what he does is sick and twisted. I think it all comes down to a control issue. He is power hungry, but feels the need to gain that power from vulnerable youth and cruelty towards them. This sick man feels empowered by leeching off of these poor children.

  26. All Kony wants is power. He, just as the FARC in Colombia, are rebels that after years of murdering people don't give up their ideals of wanting power. They are animals with no souls, whose beliefs led them to become murderers and wanted criminals. I think the FARC, a group of rebels in Colombia, is very unknown to people around the world. They have been kidnapping, and murdering thousands of persons for over 40 years. They live in the forests of Colombia, and have hundredths of men and women kidnapped living in terrible conditions. Some of the people have been kidnapped for over 10 years. They want power, and since the government hasn't given them any, they keep killing people mercilessly.

  27. Joseph Kony is after power. It is as simple as that. I mean think about it - he has managed to do this for over twenty years, and has become a feared man. He is truly a powerful figure, and he wants more. Now, of course, there are other issues out there, but they do not "tickle our fancy" as much as Kony. The truth is that we just do not know about them. Now, I cannot think of an example at the top of my head, but that situation is very present.

  28. I first started learning about Joseph Kony’s tactics when I was on Facebook and saw a whole bunch of stuff on the issue along my newsfeed. There was a thirty-minute video attached to it that I was dreading to watch because of how long it was. After I watched it however, it was sad to know that there is no real reason as to why this man is doing this. Its not to train them for war or to help them defend themselves, (which is still no reason for his actions) but to show Uganda that he has power. Abducting children from their families and using them as sex slaves and soldiers is incredibly depressing. The reason why it went so viral is because John Russell wanted to make him famous, to shed light on his cruel actions, to let the world know what is occurring on the other side of the world.

  29. I think that Kony is just doing exactly what everyone says he's doing. He's thinks of children as the perfect tool for everything. Whether its sex, or soldiers, children are the solution. Some other things happening in the world that we might not be aware of is the child labor in Asia. Although it is actually widely heard about, no one does anything about it! That's pretty much the same thing! Big factories such as nike use vietnamese children and pay them close to nothing to make their products. How come people make a big deal of Kony and not the tons of other people exploiting children? I don't get it. Lol

  30. Personally I do not know that much about this KONY situation. Recently my newsfeed on Facebook has been blown up with "KONY 2012" and how people post the link as their status or send the link to a friend. From what I can gather is that Joseph Kony is a Rebel leader that goes from town to town killing innocent people and making those that he doesn't kill join his Rebel army and I agree with everyday in that he needs to be stopped as soon as possible.
